The Lawyers Expressed Disappointment Over The Silence Of The International Community, To What Has Been Happening In Cameroon, Especially  Human Rights Abuse, Since The October 12, 2025 Presidential Election (Post-Election Crisis), And Called On The United States, European Union, ECOWAS Among Others, To Speak Out.  The Large Group Of ISSA TCHIROMA’S Lawyers, Is Comprised Of 33 Cameroonians, And 6 Foreigner, Thus A Total of 39 Lawyers (see list inside).

Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the National President of FSNC and candidate at the October 12, 2025 presidential election, who declared himself the winner of the election less than 48 hours after polls closed, is having a big team of lawyers who, also serve as advisers. The team of 39 lawyers   which is comprised of 33 Cameroonians and 6 foreigners, is known as, “Le Collectif des Avocats et Conseil de President Issa Tchiroma Bakary”. The group continues   refer to Tchiroma as ‘President – Elect’ of Cameroon.

Worthy of note, however, that according to the current Electoral Law of Cameroon, it is the Constitutional Council that has authority to proclaim the official result of the presidential election, and thus declare the winner.  On October 27, 2025, the Constitutional Council proclaimed the official result of the October 12 presidential election, and declared that the winner was the incumbent candidate, 92 year old Paul Biya, who has been in power for over four decades, precisely for 43 years.

Meanwhile, in a correspondence dated November 6, 2025, which the group of Tchiroma lawyers wrote (only in French) for the attention of members of the Diplomatic Corp  in Cameroon, they  expressed dismay  that the international community  was silent over alleged gross human rights violations, that the Biya regime  has allegedly been committing in Cameroon, since  the October 12, 2025 presidential election.  The group of lawyers reminded members of the Diplomatic Corp of some articles in international Law as well as some provisions in the Cameroon’s Constitution, such  as: 1) Article 25 of the International Pact related to Civil and Political Rights. 2) Articles 3, 13, and 20 of the African Charter of Human and People’s Rights. 3) The African Charter on Democratic Elections and Governance. 4) The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.  5) Article 2 (1) of the Cameroon Constitution which is a reminder that, “national sovereignty belongs to the people”.

The lawyers said since October 12, 2025, the date of the presidential election, the Republic of Cameroon has been going through a fundamental rupture   –   A rupture between Rights and Power, Rupture between the People and the State, and so on.  The lawyers said what is being observed in Cameroon is an electoral coup d’etat, which though looks legal, is a fraud blended with a strategy of State terrorism, occultation narrative, and so on.

The Biya Regime No Longer Governs, But Controls

The Group of Issa Tchiroma’s lawyers said the Biya regime no longer has authority, but only force.  That the power the regime has is not legitimate (by vote). “The regime does not govern, it controls. The regime does not dialogue, it imposes. The regime does not convince, it sanctions”, they said.  They added that the President has become invisible and absent because of sickness, while the Secretary General at the Presidency has become the man that has the power, with delegated powers.  They said in the modern world, people are not governed through high instructions or procuration of power, as has been happening in Cameroon in the last couple of years.

“To the international community, this silence is already a position taken. We are saying clearly to the chancelleries; each hour that passes without reaction, is the beginning of giving credibility to speeches over human rights. Each official ceremony accepted without condition, validates an order without Law. The United States, auto proclaimed defender of democracy, has to speak out.  European Union must come out of the ambiguity of post colonialism. ECOWAS, ECCAS and the African Union, must respect   their Charters (and speak out). The Francophonie has to choose either the language or the principles”, an approximate translation of an excerpt in the four page correspondence, insisted.

International Electoral Audit

Issa Tchiroma Bakary

Though the swearing –in  of President Biya for  a new mandate, or to be precise for the eight mandate took place on that  November 6, 2025, when  group of lawyers   came up with the correspondence  reportedly after a video conference , the group called for the suspension of  the swearing – in process, until an international electoral audit is carried out.  That is, an international audit of the result of the October 12 presidential election.

It should be noted that the lawyers have been making this call for an international audit of the October 12 presidential election, in the last few weeks. When a question related to this demand of an international electoral audit, was recently posed to a senior member of the ruling CPDM Party, Prof Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, former member of Government, by France 24, he dismissed it outright. He said the Cameroon Electoral Code or Electoral Law does not create room for such an audit.

It should also be noted that the group of lawyers in their correspondence written for the attention of members of the Diplomatic Corp, did not mention anything about Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s alleged victory at the October 12 presidential election.  Tchiroma’s name was not even mentioned.  The increasing demand being made that Tchiroma’s Campaign Team, should provide evidences   (return reports or PVs), to show that he won the October 12 presidential election, has become an embarrassment to the lawyers and some of the supporters of Tchiroma.   The previous claim by the Tchiroma Campaign Team, that the 18 out of the 58 Divisions in the country that they selected constituted 80 % of registered voters, in the country, has turned out to be a big lie.  That was probably why the decision was taken by Tchiroma and his team, not to file any petition at the Constitutional Council.

Meanwhile the group of Tchiroma’s lawyers in their correspondence, written for the attention of the Diplomatic Corp, also demanded the immediate liberation, and without condition, of all those in detention that they termed, ‘Prisoners of Opinion’, who were arrested in relation to the post –election crisis.

Jurists For Truth, Justice And State Of Law

Meanwhile it should be noted that in the correspondence of the group of Tchiroma’s lawyers and advisers, done for the attention of the Diplomatic Corp, the lawyers instead presented their group as: “Collectif Camerounais et International des Juristes pour la Verite , La Justice, et l’Etat de Droit”, that is, a group of  Cameroonian and Internal Jurists,  for Truth, Justice and State of Law.

There are questions as to the condition under which members of this large group of lawyers, and amongst whom are quite a number of senior lawyers, are operating with Tchiroma.   In other words, who is paying all these lawyers?  They cannot be working for free, especially the foreign lawyers.   Meanwhile, it should be noted that, quite a number of the Cameroonian lawyers are either members of the MRC Party, or are close to the party.  Also, many of the lawyers are people who supported Issa Tchiroma at the October 12 presidential election.  The Doyen, Barrister Alice Nkom, who, is not known to be a militant of any political party, declared her support for Issa Tchiroma’s candidacy at the October 12 presidential election. Senior Barrister, Sihm Emmanuel, who is the 3rd Vice National President of MRC, campaigned for Issa Tchiroma at the October 12 presidential election.
