When The First Son Of Bali Nyonga, Rev BABILA GEORGE FOCHANG, Wanted To Run For The Post Of Moderator In 2019, The Then PCC Moderator, Rt Rev FONKI SAMUEL FORBAH, And His Mafia Group, Scandalously Modified The Constitution To Bar His Way. After Election, The Modification Was Dropped. The Synod Elections Last Year, Were Also Marred By Electoral Malpractices. One Can See Why The PCC Leadership Cannot Criticize Election Rigging By The Regime. THE POT CANNOT CALL A KETTLE, BLACK

PC Ntanfoang in Bali Nyonga. Where the independence of the PCC from the Basel Mission, was declared on Nov. 13, 1957

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, is 68 years old. It turned 68 precisely on Thursday, November 13, 2025. It would be recalled that it was precisely at 11. 30 am on November 13, 1957, that the declaration of the autonomy or independence of the PCC from the Basel Mission was made at a ceremony which held at the Presbyterian Church Ntanfoang- Bali Nyonga, in the then British Southern Cameroons. Today, Bali Nyonga is a sub –division in Mezam Division, Northwest Region of the Republic of Cameroon.

Worthy of note that after the declaration of independence of the PCC from the Basel Mission  in late 1957,  Rev Abraham Ngole  became the First Cameroonian Moderator of the PCC in 1958, while in 1959 Rev Aaron Su became the first Cameroonian Synod Clerk of the PCC.

Worthy of note as well that PC Ntanfoang – Bali Nyonga, remains , and will ever remain in the annals of the history of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, as the  seat of the declaration of PCC’s autonomy from the  Basel Mission. Also worthy of note that Bali Nyonga host the oldest college of the PCC  in the country, that is, the renowned Cameroon Protestant College  Bali, which was opened by  the Basel Mission in the days of British Southern Cameroons.

No Bali Son Has Ever Been Moderator of The PCC.

There is no question that Bali Nyonga remains a predominantly PCC ‘territory’. A large majority of sons and daughters of Bali Nyonga are Christians of the PCC.  The high number of Parish Pastors of PCC serving in Bali Nyonga today, is a reflection of the many Presbyterian Church Congregations in the locality. Also, though there are also many sons of Bali Nyonga who are Pastors in the PCC, no son of Bali Nyonga has ever been the Moderator of the PCC.  This was however never an issue to the Bali people until what happened in 2019. Rev Babila George Forchang, was the first son of Bali Nyonga to become Synod Clerk of the PCC. That was in 2014, that is, 11 years ago.  But in 2019, Rev Babila George Forchang, who wanted to run in the PCC election for the post of Moderator, was illegally  and scandalously barred from participating in the election by the then Moderator, Rt Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah.  Worse still, Babila was barred in the most brutal, vicious and primitive way, associated only with crude dictatorships or brutal anti- democratic regimes in the Africa.

Babila Was Supposed To Be Fonki’s Main Rival In The 2019 Election

It would be recalled that Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah and Rev Babila George Forchang, were respectively, elected Moderator and Synod Clerk of the PCC in 2014, for a five year mandate, renewable once, as is the tradition in the PCC.  The next elections were thus to come up in 2019.  When time came for the elections, Rev Fonki wanted to run for the second and last mandate for the office of Moderator, while Rev Babila Forchang also wanted to run for the office of Moderator. Forchang also  apparently considered that age was not much on his side, if he had to continue in the post of Synod Clerk, and thus wait for another five years to run for the post of Moderator. A pastor that wants to run for the office of Moderator of the PCC, has to be less than 60 years old.

But then  Fonki apparently feared that Babilia would beat him in the election for the post of Moderator, considering the fact that he (Babila) recorded a landslide victory in the election for  the post of  Synod Clerk in 2014, and also because he (Fonki) had suffered so much criticisms in the PCC during his first mandate, for bad governance.

As for Rev Babila Forchang, before becoming Synod Clerk, he among other things was for several years a lecturer at the Presbyterian Theological Seminary Kumba, and was thus known, as well as appreciated, by many pastors who studied at the seminary, including pastors that went back to the institution for ‘refresher courses’. There was also the fact that many elites in the PCC who were very disappointed with the management of Rev Fonki during his first mandate as Moderator due to bad governance, and who did not find any serious fault with the work of Rev Babila Forchang in his first mandate as Synod Clerk, really wanted Rev Babila to be a candidate in the election for the office of Moderator, to take over the office of Moderator and save PCC from further disaster in the hands of Rev Fonki.

Controversial Modification Of The PCC Constitution

And so Rt Rev Fonki Samuel Fonki really feared that he would not get a second mandate as Moderator, if Rev Babila Forchnag was a candidate in the election. But rather than sit down and talk with Rev Babila, and try to convince him to instead run for a second mandate for the post of Synod Clerk, Fonki instead opted to misuse his office of Moderator, to  embark on a mafia to illegally and undemocratically bar Babila from running in the election for office of Moderator.  Fonki and a small mafia group of unscrupulous ‘pastors’ and ‘Christians’ with whom he surrounded himself in the PCC, embarked on a very controversial mission to forcefully modify the Constitution of the Church,  to bar Babila from running for the post of Moderator of the PCC. To Fonki, Babila had to be barred at all cost.

Rev Fonki and his small mafia group pushed on in their mission to carry out a highly controversial modification of the Constitution of the PCC. The modification stated that for any pastor in the PCC to run for the office of Moderator, he must have held the post of Synod Clerk for 10 years (two mandates), which is the maximum in the PCC.  The controversial modification of the Constitution of the PCC was, off course clearly designed or meant to bar Rev Babilia George Forchang, who then had been Synod Clerk for five years, from running for the office of Moderator in the 2019 election. And so it happened.

Fonki Became Moderator, Without Having Been Synod Clerk

But it was also a very ridiculous decision, especially for Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah himself.  For one thing, Fonki was the first PCC pastor to become Moderator of the PCC, without having held the post of Synod Clerk, or even worked at the Synod Office, which is the PCC headquarters. Fonki left the post of Parish Pastor in Yaounde straight to the office of Moderator In Buea, and thus lacked experience as well as good understanding of the PCC. That was certainly one of the major reasons why he had much problem in his management of the Church.  Worth noting that In the PCC, the Moderator is like the President of the Republic, while the Synod Clerk is like the Secretary General at the Presidency. The tradition in the PCC over the years, have  been such that, by the time a pastor gets to the office of Moderator, he should have served as Synod Clerk and, thus have a good understanding of the PCC, as well acquired experience in the management of the entire religious organization. All of Fonki’s predecessors first served as Synod Clerks before becoming Moderators.

But Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah jumped from the post of Parish Pastor in Yaounde straight to the office of Moderator of the PCC, whereas the right person in that 2014 that was supposed to become Moderator of PCC was Rev Abwenzo, who had served a term (five years) as Synod Clerk, and wanted to take over from the outgoing Moderator, Rt Rev Dr Festus Asana.

Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah

Controversial Modification Of The Constitution Made Rev Babila Forchang, Ineligible

Then at the 2019 Synod Elections in the PCC, Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah, and his mafia group, modified the Constitution of the PCC to bar Rev Babila Forchang, a former lecturer at PTS Kumba, a former Parish Pastor (PC Bonaberi – Douala), and somebody who had held the post of Synod Clerk for five years, from running for the post of Moderator of PCC.  The modification in the PCC Constitution made Rev Babila Forchang ineligible in the election for the post of Moderator, because had by then served as Synod Clerk for only five years, and not 10 years as the modified Constitution required. Suffice to say Rev Fonki ended up as the single candidate in the election for the post of Moderator of the PCC.

So as can be seen, the type of dirty politics or mafia, that the CPDM regime played to get the Constitutional Council to bar the MRC leader and presidential candidate, Prof Maurice Kamto, from the October 12, 2025 presidential election, also happens in elections in some our Churches.  What some ‘men –of – God’ in our Churches, do!!!

“Punitive Transfers” Of Pastors Considered As ‘Enemies’

Meanwhile after barring Rev Babila George Forchang from participating in the election for the office of Moderator, Rev Fonki backed Rev Miki Hans Abia as his candidate for the post of Synod Clerk. The outgoing Synod Clerk, Rev Babila  Forchang, was of course not a candidate in the election, as he instead wanted to run for the post of Moderator.  Suffice to say Rev Miki Hans Abia who is today Moderator of PCC, became the new Synod Clerk in 2019.

Moderator Fonki became so vindictive against Rev Babila Forchang and all the pastors that had supported Babila or that were critical of his (Fonki’s) management. Many were sent on what was widely considered in the PCC as punitive transfers, to smaller congregations. The former Synod Clerk, Rev Babila Forchang, was for example sent to PC Bamendakwe  in Bamenda 1 Sub –division,  while ‘loyalist pastors’ or boot lickers, some with questionable competence, were sent to big congregations. It should be noted that Rev Babila Forchang who is today close to retirement, is currently the Parish Pastor of PC Njenka – Bali Nyonga.

Reversal Of The PCC Constitution

Moderator of PCC, Rt Rev Miki Hans Abia

Meanwhile, after succeeding in his mission to forcefully modify the PCC Constitution for his selfish interest, which was to bar the way from his main challenger in the 2019 election to the post of Moderator, Rt Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah, again found himself in the ugly position of having to reverse or dump the modified PCC Constitution. Fonki’s second and last mandate as Moderator of PCC had to end in 2024, and his man, Rev Miki Hans Abia whom he was grooming to take over from him as Moderator, was in his first mandate as Synod Clerk, and thus would have done only one mandate or five years as Synod Clerk, as by the time of the next Synod elections in 2024. If the modified Constitution of the PCC, which stated that a candidate for the post of Moderator should have been a Synod Clerk for 10 years, was maintained, it would have meant that there would be no candidate in the election for the post of Moderator, at  the 2024 elections.

It was clear that Fonki and his mafia group had focused only on barring the way to Babila Forchang from running for the post of Moderator at the 2019 Synod elections that, they did not reflect on the implications or foresee the implications, of the controversial modification they made to the PCC Constitution. Suffice to say that the modified Constitution of the PCC had to be re-modified or reversed to what it was before.  That is, any pastor of the PCC, who is less than 60 years old, is eligible to run for the office of Moderator. We see the type of mafia that some so called men –of- God carryout in Church elections. Even worse, and more ridiculous, than what the CPDM regime does!

Three Of The Five Members Of The Board Of Trustee, Resigned

Meanwhile, following what Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah and his mafia group scandalously did, by forcefully modifying the Constitution of the PCC , to bar a rival from running for election for the office of Moderator, and reversing  the modification after succeeding  in their mission, three of the five members of the Board of Trustee of the PCC, resigned. The three included CHIEF ADA KESSI, BA NKOM RAYMOND DINGA GWANYALLA, and SIR DR NTUMFOR BARRISTER NICO HALLE. The three personalities had from the very beginning, strongly protested against the highly controversial decision by Rev Fonki and his mafia group, to illegally modify the Constitution of the PCC, for selfish interest and malicious intention.

But Fonki and his mafia group forced their way and, then, only to annul the modification after succeeding in their devilish mission to bar the main rival in the election for the office of Moderator.  The three members of the Board of Trustee, could not remain in the Board, seeing the damage that Fonki and his mafia group had done to the image of the PCC.  Fonki’s mafia group dragged the Church into stinking mud, or better still, they dragged the Church into mafia in broad daylight, while many pastors looked on, afraid to raise their voice for fear of being victimized liked others.

The Pot Cannot Call A Kettle, Black

It would be recalled that the Synod elections last year (2024)  to the office of Moderator and Synod Clerk, were marred by lots of scandals or electoral malpractices, designed by the organizers to enable particular candidates, or better still their candidates,  to win  at all cost. One can see why unlike the Catholic Church or Catholic Bishops, the PCC leadership cannot criticize election rigging by the regime.  The pot has no moral authority to call a kettle, black.

 TRUTH HOUSE Memo

Worthy of note that in an excerpt of a memo dated October 2, 2024, TRUTH HOUSE, recalled to the then  outgoing Moderator of PCC, Rt Rev Fonki Samuel Forbah, that: “FIVE YEARS AGO, YOU SHIFTED THE GOAL POST, BY PANEL BEATING THE CHURCH CONSTITUTION TO DEPRIVE YOUR MAIN RIVAL, REV BABILA FORCHANG, OF ELIGIBILTY FOR THE POST OF MODERATOR”.

Worth noting that TRUTH HOUSE is a group of bona fide Presbyterians from all walks of life, having served the PCC for many years, some in key positions including members of the Synod Exco Board of Trustees, as well as Elders in Various congregations, who are out to denounce or fight against malpractices or wrongdoings especially by the leadership of the PCC (Synod Office), that have in the last 10 years been destroying the Church.
