CHRIS MBUNWE, Who Was The Bamenda Bureau Chief Of The Post Newspaper From When The Paper  Was Launched in 1997, Up To 2025, Indisputably Established  Himself As One Of The ‘Baobads’ in Journalism In The Northwest Region.  CHRIS MBUNWE Alias Northern Commander, As He Was Fondly Known In The Post Newspaper, Passed Away In Bamenda On Sunday, April 12, 2026.

The late Publisher of The Champion Newspaper, Chris Mbunwe, former Bamenda Bureau Chief of The Post Newspaper, who gave up the ghost on Sunday, April 12, 2026 in Bamenda, after battling with health problems for sometimes, will be buried on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in Bamenda. This information is contained in a funeral programme, released by the family.  Chris Mbunwe who hailed from Tabenkeng in Nkambe Sub division, Donga and Mantung Division of the Northwest Region of Cameroon, put in over 30 years (non-stop), in the practice of his much cherished journalism profession.  Interestingly too, Chris Mbunwe spent all ofhis long professional career, based in the Northwest Region.

Chris Mbunwe who was fondly known in The Post Newspaper as the Northern Commander, along the line also became a traditional title holder (Ta Nformi). It is a traditional title from his native Wimbum land. That was how he became known as Ta Nformi Chris Mbumwe.  He was for a number of years the President of his village meeting  group in Bamenda

                               FRIDAY, 24thAPRIL, 2026

2 pm – 5.30 pm: Wake-keep at the Wimbum Men’s Hall, Ndamukong Street, Mile 2 Nkwen, Bamenda

                             SATURDAY, 25th APRIL, 2026

7 am: Removal of mortal remains at St Blaise Mortuary

8 am:     Arrival of corpse at WICUDA Men’s Hall. Laying in state and viewing.

10 am:     Funeral Mass at All Saints Parish Bayelle

12.30pm:  Burial at Parish cemetery 

  2 pm:       Reception and funeral celebration at WICUDA Men’s Hall

4 pm:        Departures of mourners

                    SUNDAY, 26th ARIL, 2026

6.30 am:     Thanks giving mass at All Saints Parish Bayelle
