The traditional authorities of Wimbum Land, Donga and Mantung Division in the Northwest Region of Cameroon, have under the canopy of The Wimbum Fons Union, WIFU, warned that though their people are by nature hospitable, their hospitality should not be taken for granted by settlers or whosoever. This warning is contained in a release by the Wimbum Fons Union dated October 2, 2024 and signed by the Chairman of the Union, Fon Kamanda Charles Kimbi.
This warning follows the killing of two indigenes (a man and his wife) of Sop Village in Ndu Sub – division, Donga and Mantung Division, in the night of Monday, September 30, breaking Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Reports on the social media, say the retired couple were murdered at their home in that fateful night, allegedly by Fulani herdsmen. The man was reportedly shot, while his wife was stabbed several times. No reason was given for the macabre act, but it should be noted that bloody attacks on the indigenes by Fulani herdsmen are very rampant in the Ndu Sun –division. The situation got worse with the coming of the Anglophone Crisis. Fulani herdsmen were for example involved in the nefarious Ngarbuh Massacre., alongside some elements of the Cameroon military.
The Fulani people have on their part been complaining that separatist fighters commonly known as Amba boys, whom they say are indigenes (Wimbum boys) have been killing many of their people, extorting money from them, and stealing their cows.
Unfortunately the long and bloody conflict between Fulani herdsmen (settlers) and the indigenous Wimbum population in Ndu Sub – division, have not so far received the full attention of the administration or Government, probably because the Fulani herdsmen in Ndu Sub – division are apparently considered by the administration as a collaborator in the fight against the Amba boys in the locality.
Whatever the case, below is the October 2024 release by the Wimbum Fons Union, in its entirety:
THE WIMBUM FONS UNION (WIFU).
CONDEMNATION OF RECURENT ATTACKS ON WIMBUM PEOPLE
With indignation, WIFU learned of the brutal assassination of Mr and Mrs Mangoh George Nyako of Sop Village in Ndu Sub –division of the Donga and Mantung Division, in the night of Monday, September 30 breaking Tuesday, October 1st , 2024. This incident follows just about two weeks after Ta Ngwang Emmanuel Ndzi was shot at Ntamruh.
For some time now, Sop Village and its environs has been a theatre of heinous violence where unidentified armed persons indulge into acts of killings and looting of property. This is a sacrilege and must stop. I am sending this last warning to those involved in this barbarism to desist from that with immediate effect. Whoever they may be, I want to assure them that in Mbum Land , human life is sacred and the blood they have spilled will sure cry against them.
Mbum people are hospital and friendly. This is not a sign of weakness either. We want to caution anyone instrumentalizing this series of violence to be careful.
We call on the population to be very vigilant and report to security and the palace, any acts of suspicion or persons involved in this. With a heavy heart, we do sympathise with the Sop village in general and the bereaved people in particular. May the land of our ancestors be kind to them.
Fon Kamanda Charles Kimbi
Chairman
