The population of Bali Nyonga in Mezam Division in the Northwest Region has been in a state of euphoria in the last couple of months, following a road project that has seen the tarring of several roads in the town. The road project which is being executed by Edge Construction Company, and which is scheduled to end in October 2024, is the first time ever that roads in Bali town have seen the colour of tar.

It should be noted before the coming of this historic road project, there were only two tarred roads in Bali Nyonga, one of which is the Trans – African Highway that runs from Bamenda through Bali Nyonga, Batibo, Widikum, Mamfe to Ekok; the frontier town between Cameroon and Nigeria. The other tarred road was the one that ran from the highway at Houssa Quarters- Njenka to the Cameroon Protestant College, CPC Bali. The road was tarred by CPC and its partners.

Meanwhile, the one strange thing about the ongoing road project in Bali Nyonga, is that the public does not know the source of the funds for the project which is driving to its end. No local authority has so far said anything about the source of the funding. No local authority or any visiting authority has been seen around the project. The military that has a heavy and active presence in Bali Nyonga due to the Anglophone Crisis has not been seen around the project site.   However, the road project has fortunately and happily enough, been going on unperturbed.

The rumour that has been circulating in Bali is that the road project is probably being funded by the association of Bali Nyoinga community in the United States. That is, the Bali Nyonga Development and Cultural Association, BANDECA – USA. The rumour was seemingly fabricated for propagation by some Bali elite for unclear reasons.   However, though BENDECA – USA has over the years funded many important development projects in Bali Nyonga, findings carried out by The Mentor show that BENDECA – USA is not behind the road project in anyway. A dependable source, hinted The Mentor on the real source of the funding for the road project, but on condition that the information is not disclosed to the public.

However from all indications, the population of Bali Nyonga is not even much concern about the source of the funds for the road project. The population is overwhelmed with joy with their tarred roads, no matter the source of the funds. For one thing, the tarred roads will remain in Bali, and the population will be those to benefit.
