On Sept. 23, 2026, Police Blocked A Press Conference, That The Father Of Late Ozanne, Who Insisted She Died From Sexual Violence, Wanted To Grant. On Friday, Sept. 25, Secondary Education Minister, Nalova Lyonga, Visited The College, And Parents Of Late Ozanne, During Which She Scandalously Pushed Away Journalists, And By That Raised Questions As To What Gov’t Was Trying To Hide. A Deal Was Also Seemingly Struck, For Late Ozanne’s Father, To Stop Talking To The Media.
The Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, announced that an investigation had been opened to find out the circumstances, or the real cause, of the death of the 12 year old female student of ‘College de la Salle’ in Douala, Ozanne Essoe Mokouko, on Friday, September 18, 2026. The father of the decease, who talked to journalists in the presence of the Governor, during the Governor’s visit to the residence of the parents of the late student on that September 22, insisted that the daughter died from sexual violence at school.
But despite the Governor’s announcement that an investigation had been opened, the father of the late student still words to media houses in Douala through some contacts, that evening, that he would be grant a press conference at the entrance (gate) of ‘College de la Salle’ on Wednesday, September 23. It was said that he would among other things provide evidences in the possession of the family, to substantiate their claim that the young Ozanne died from sexual violence that occurred in the school, contrary to what the school authorities were claiming – that she suffered a malaise, fell unconscious, and soon passed away.
Meanwhile, when journalists and camera men turned up for the press conference, they realized that the police had been deployed all over the place, to stop it from holding. Suffice to say a senior journalist / trade unionist, Nathaniel Njock, brought words from the father of late Ozanne, to journalists. Late Ozanne’s father in the message explained to media men and women, that following the deployment of the police to block the press conference from holding, he thought it wise not to show up. He however promised that a new press conference would be organized at his residence, or at a more convenient place.
Secondary Education Minister‘s Controversial Act
The controversy over the death on Friday, September 18, 2026 of 12 year old Ozanne Essoe Moukoko, a Form 2 student of ‘College de la Salle’, Douala, took a new twist on Friday, September 25, 2026, when the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga Pauline espe Egbe, was in Douala, during which she visited the college (Catholic Mission), as well as the late student’s parents.
But unlike the visit early in the week by the Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua, to both the college and the parents of Late Ozanne Moukoko, that was opened to the media, journalists were pushed away during the visit of the Secondary Education Minister. In fact the minister was scandalously caught on camera, indicating with her hands, that journalists should not be allowed into the room at ‘College de la Salle’, where she had to hold a meeting with the administration and staff of the school. Also, unlike the Littoral Governor who talked to the media at the end of his visit to the college and parents of the late student, the Secondary Education minister did not talk to the media at the end of her visit.
Father Of Late Ozanne Also Pushed Away The Media On That Sep. 25
Meanwhile, the media was also asked to stay away during the visit of the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, to the residence of the parents of the late student of ‘College de la Salle’, Ozanne Moukoko, on Friday, September 25. 2026.
After the minister and her entourage left, the media men and women who were hanging around, went to the residence of the parents of late Ozanne, hoping that the late student’s father who had become media friendly, would brief them on the meeting with the minister. But to the greatest embarrassment of the journalists, the father of the late Ozanne too, shut his door, and insisted that the media should go away. This sparked all sorts of speculation s as to what happened during the visit of the minister, to the extent that the father of late Ozanne’s , all of a sudden did not want to see the media. He did not only refuse to talk, but actually insisted that the media men and women should leave his premises.
But as one of the journalists reminded late Ozanne’s father before leaving the premises, it was him that since the incident occurred, had been running behind the media.
Speculations, Suspicions, Questions
Meanwhile, what happened during the visit of the Minister of Secondary Education, Nalova Lyonga, to “College de la Salle’, as well as to the residence of the parents of the late student, Ozanne Essoe Moukoko, raised more questions and sparked more suspicions and speculations over the death of the 12 year old student. A Douala based Journalist and Human Rights Activist, Clarence Yongo, expressed shock at the attitude of Minister Nalova Lyonga, who pushed away journalists from attending a meeting on a serious public issue, and questioned what the government is hiding in the death of the 12 year old Ozanne Moukoko. It should be noted that what happened on Friday, September 25, also sparked speculations and suspicions that a deal had been struck, or arranged, to calm down the irate parents of the decease, and keep their mouths shut.
Whatever the case, the fact is that what the Minister of Secondary Education did, will not only further discredit the government, but will certainly raise doubts about the report of the ongoing investigation into the death of 12 year old student, Ozanne Moukoko. The Douala population for example, have since the declaration that was first made by the parents of the late Ozanne, that she died from sexual violence in school, been sticking to it, and will likely not change.
Douala Is Not Yaounde
Also, the controversial decision by Minister Nalova Lyonga, to chase away the media from a public meeting, that is not a security meeting, is something that rarely happens in Douala. The fact is that Douala is not Yaounde, a town of civil servants that worship ministers, because they are seeking for appointments or promotions. Douala is the country’s economic capital, the main base of the private sector in the country. Douala is the seat of a strong and independent media, an active or strong civil society, and so on.
From all indications, the controversial and embarrassing decision by Minister Nalova Lyonga, that journalists as well as human rights activists, be kept away from the meeting of last Friday, which more so was a meeting related to alleged sexual violence and infanticide, has put her name in the Black Book of the Media and Civil Society in Douala. This can be seen from the reports that media organs in Douala have been running since the incident of last Friday, and also from what members of the Civil Society have been saying about the minister.
Also, the action which Minister Nalova Lyonga made with her hands last Friday at ‘College de la Salle’ Douala, which meant that the press should go away, is now being used in Douala by media men and women, as well as members of the civil society, as a joke or mockery.
No Communication By School Administration
Meanwhile, observers in Douala are unanimous that the incident that occurred at ‘College de la Salle’, having to do with the 12 year old Form 2 student, Ozanne Essoe Moukoko, who was found unconscious in the school toilet, and died shortly afterwards, exploded the way it did, because of the very poor handling of the information by the administration of ‘College de la Salle’, a Catholic technical college.
The incident reportedly occurred at 5 pm on that fateful Friday (September 18, 2026). The school administration was supposed to put out a communiqué latest the next morning (Saturday), formally informing parents of students of the institution, and the public at large, on what happened, as well as the measures that had been taken that far. The communiqué would normally have ended by extending the condolences of the college to the bereaved parents or family. Such a communiqué would have also assured the bereaved family, parents who have children in the school, sympathizers, and the public, that the school administration was being very concerned with the death of the student, was being transparent on the issue, and that the truth or justice would prevail.
No Communiqué Or Declaration By the School Administration
But instead, the school administration stayed mute. The family or parents of the late student (Ozanne Essoe Moukoko), got very angry, and their indignation could be understood. The frustration of the parents exploded, with the father of the decease, coming out to cry to the media, that her 12 year old daughter died following sexual violence on the school premises, precisely the school toilet, and that there were some vicious attempts or manipulations to conceal the truth. That was the version of the story that went public, as the school administration maintained a disturbing silence.
On Monday, September 21, the administration of ‘College de la Salle’, held a meeting with the PTA Executive of the school, and tried to debunk the allegation that the late student, Ozanne Moukoko, was a victim of sexual violence in the school toilet. But even after that meeting, the school administration did not still put out a communiqué on the issue, or make any declaration to the media. It should be noted that an unsigned communiqué, on a non –letter headed paper, dated September 21, 2026, and purportedly issued by the school principal, appeared on the social media. But it later turned out that it was crafted by some sympathizers who attended the meeting between the school administration and the PTA Exo, on September 21.
It should be noted that a number of Catholic Priests that are active on the social media, but that are neither teachers nor members of the administrative staff of ‘’College de la Salle’, like Father Akaba Etienne, stood up and started talking in the place of the Principal or administration of the school, having seen that the continuous silence by the school administration on the issue, was also hurting the image of the Catholic Church. It should be noted that up till date (September 30, 2026), the administration of ‘College de la Salle’, has not issued any communiqué, or made any declaration to the media, on the death of the 12 year Form 2 student, Ozanne Essoe Moukoko.
