NGONDO Asserts That The Two Sawa Sons, YONDO BLACK And EKANE ANICET, Had “Remained Faithful To Their Convictions, And Consistent In Their Fights”.  NGONDO, Points Out That, For Over Half A Century, These Two Sawa Sons, Were Actively Engaged In Fundamental Political Battles Concerning Cameroon, And That Their Disappearances Indisputably Leaves A Vacuum On The Political Landscape Of The Country

Late Batonnier Yondo Black Mandengue

On the eve of the celebration of the annual Ngondo Festival, which is the grand cultural jamboree of the people of the Sawa Land, NGONDO, which is the highest traditional institution of the Sawa Land, has in a communiqué, personally signed by its current President, MRM PAUL MILORD MBAPPE BWANGA, paid homage two fallen Sawa sons, Batonnier YONDO BLACK MANDENGUE, and EKANE ANICET GEORGES.

Worth noting that the  Senior Barrister, Yondo Black Mandengue, former President of the Cameroon Bar Council, who also  was also into politics, died  in Douala on October 16, 2025 at the age of 87, and the corpse is still at the mortuary of the Military Hospital at Bonanjo, Douala.  As for Ekane Anicet Georges, veteran opposition leader and National President of the MANIDEM Political Party, he died  at the age of 74 in custody in the nation‘s capital, Yaounde, on Monday, December 1, 2025, after  he and another veteran opposition leader, Djeukam Tchameni, were arrested in Douala on October 24, 2025 and whisked off to Yaounde for detention.

Meanwhile, NGONDO in the communiqué noted that the two Sawa sons, Yondo Black and Ekane Anicet, were for over half a century, fully engaged in Cameroon as well as abroad, “in fundamental political fights” or battles concerning the fatherland (Cameroon). NGONDO noted that their departure from this world has indisputably left a vacuum on the national political landscape. “NGONDO s’incline avec respect devant ces deux dignes fils Sawa, demeures fideles a leur convictions et constants dans leur batailles”, that is, NGONDO pays respect to the two worthy or important sons of Sawa, that stayed faithful to their convictions and constant in their fights.

NGONDO concluded the communiqué by addressing its condolences and assurance of deep compassion, to the families of the departed illustrious sons of Sawa, as well as to all those that were close to them, to the grand Sawa Community, and to all those who shared in their political fights or battles of Yondo Black and Ekane Anicet, for the fatherland.

The Patriotic Democrats

Late Ekane Anicet Georges

It should be noted that Yondo Black Mendengue and Ekane Anicet, were both members of a group that were arrested and incarcerated in February 1990, for working on a project to create a political party. The group known as “Democrates Patriotes”, was the initiative of Barrister Yondo Black. He in late 1989 invited Ekane Anicet and a number of persons he thought were trusted and committed combatants in the struggle to democratize Cameroon, to join him to work on a project to create another political party in the country, which had since 1966 virtually become a one party State in practice.  The group secretly started working on the political project to create another party in Cameroon, but the members were unfortunately rounded up in February 1990, when information was leaked to the secret service (CENER) by an agent that had along the line infiltrated the group. The issue became widely known as the Yondo Black Affair.

Yondo Black, Ekane and the other members later faced trial at the Military Tribunal, where they were instead falsely charged for plotting an insurrection, and for insulting the President of the Republic.  Ekane Anicet ended up been slammed the most severe sentence, as he was accused of bad behaviour, that he allegedly showed no respect to the court and judges.  He was slammed a three year jail term, and a heavy fine, while Batonnier Yondo Black was given a three year suspended sentence. However, after sometimes in jail, Ekane Anicet was granted a pardon by President Paul Biya, and he left prison.

Regime Will Definitely Not Be Happy With The Sawa Chiefs

Meanwhile, there is certainly no doubt that the Biya Regime will definitely not be happy with the Sawa Chiefs, for the NGONDO Communiqué, in which NGONDO pays homage to the late veteran opposition leader,  Ekane Anicet, who died in custody at the beginning of  this week, and who  the regime and its agents have been trying to paint as a villain or criminal.  When NGONDO qualifies Ekane Anicet as “VALEUREUX FILS”, that is a son who was brave or valiant,   as well as ‘DINGNE FIILS SAWA”, that is, a  Sawa son who is was a man of dignity,  the regime definitely will get very disturbed. The Sawa Chiefs have by that important communiqué, made it clear to the regime, that though they have always been loyal or submissive, they will not go along with the regime on this Ekane Anicet Affair.
