Recalls that CPDM was his first political party, and says he did not formally resign from the party when he left in the 90s
The Mayor of Bafoussam 1, Ngnang Cyrille, who was one of the so called G 27 + that were dismissed from the SDF by the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the frontline opposition party during its session of February 25, 2023 for anti –party activities, has returned to the ruling CPDM which he left in the hot political days of the 1990s and joined the SDF. Ngnang Cyrille who formally returned to the CPDM on the 42nd anniversary celebration of President Biya in power, granted a press conference in Bafoussam on Friday, November 8, 2024, on his return to the ruling party.
Mayor Nganng Cyrille’s return to the CPDM will be ironical to many, considering that the G 27 + group that had Hon Jean Michel Ninttcheu as one its leaders, had projected as their main grievances against the then SDF leadership, unfounded allegations that then National Chairman of the SDF, Ni John Fru Ndi, was chapping from the regime, and that the 1st Vice National Chairman of the party, Hon Joshua Nambangi Osih, was close to the CPDM.
Never Formally Resigned From The CPDM
But speaking at the press conference in Bafoussam on November 8, Mayor Ngnang Cyrille said the CPDM to which he has now returned, was the first political party he fell in love with. He said he started politics in the YCPDM, but left in the hot days of 90s, and joined the SDF. He said CPDM has always being his original home. Ngang Cyrille was responding to questions that some people consider him a traitor for leaving the opposition to join the CPDM. He added that: “D’ailleurs, Je n’ai jamais formellement demissione de cette formation politique”, meaning that he never formally resigned from the CPDM when he left the party in 90s, as well as for for all the years that he was in the SDF. Thus he was in the SDF, but still having ties with the CPDM.
Mayor Ngang Cyrille also argued that: “Quand on est a l’oppostion c’est pour acceder au pourvoir, mais quand le parti au pouvoir vous appelle, vous faites comment?”, approximately translated as: “When one is in the opposition, it is get to power. But then when the party in power calls for you, what do you do?”
Mayor Ngnang And Others Voted For CPDM at Senatorial Elections
Political observers will agree that the decision by the Mayor of Bafoussam 1 Council, Ngang Cyrille, to return to the CPDM after he was dismissed from the SDF, does not come as a surprise. There have been signs in the horizon. At the last senatorial elections which took place on March 12, 2023, the SDF did not put up a list in the West Region. The party hierarchy gave directive that all SDF councilors in the West Region should for the CDU of Late Dr Adamou Ndam Njoya, another major opposition party, which put up a list in the West Region. But in Mifi Division, Mayor Ngnang Cyrille led the SDF Deputy Mayors and councilors of the Bafoussam 1 Council, to instead vote for the CPDM at the elections.
The CDU expressed its disappointment to what the SDF councilors of Bafoussam 1 did, through a senior member of the party, Hon Nkoupit Adamou Youmou, The then SDF Secretary General, Barrister Adeline Lord Djomgang, who was a guest in the programme, L”ARENE, over Canal 2 International on April 16, 2023, confirmed in pains that the SDF councilors of the Bafoussam 1 Council voted for the CPDM at the March 12 senatorial elections. It should be noted that the Deputy Mayor of Bafoussam 1 Council, Barrister Tsapy Lavoisier Joseph, of all, joined Mayor Ngang Cyrille , to vote for the CPDM list at the senatorial election. When Tsapy was confronted by reporters on the issue, he admitted that he voted for the CPDM at the senatorial election, but said he did so because his brother was on the list. Humm!
Bafoussam Council – Biggest Council In The West Region
It should be noted, that the Bafoussam 1 Council which the SDF won at the last municipal elections by simple majority, is the biggest municipal council in the West Region, and is in the category of the biggest councils in Cameroon which each has 61 councilors (including mayors). The Mayor of the Bafouusam 1 Council, Ngnang Cyrille, has not returned to the CPDM empty handed. He announced at the press conference that 42 councilors of the Bafoussam 1 Council that were of the SDF have followed him to the CPDM.
It should be noted that one of the prominent members of the G 27 -, Barrister Tsapy Lavoisier Joseph, who is one of Deputy Mayors of the Bafoussam 1 Council, has not gone along with Ngnang Cyrille to the CPDM. After members of the G 27 + were sacked from the SDF last year, Barrister Tsapy Lavoisier who was a NEC member for many years, decided to neither follow Jean Michel Nintcheu to his revived party, nor join the MRC as many people had speculated. He has also refused to go with Mayor Ngnang Cyrille to the CPDM. Tsapy remains in politics and thus remains a political figure in the country. But since the G 27 + members were thrown out of the SDF for anti –party activities in February 2023, Tsapy has so far joined any other political party.
It should as well be noted that Barrister Tsapy Lavoisier Joseph, was one of the closest persons to the Pioneer National Chairman of the SDF, Ni John Fru Ndi, for many years. His decision to join the group of dissidents was definitely a shock to Chairman Fru Ndi and a surprise to many political observers.
