The Official Statistics Show There Has Persistently Been An Annual Increase In The Number of Women Killed In Cameroon Since 2023. The Heinous Acts Are Mostly Committed By Husbands That Turn Into Beasts. Last Year, The Total Annual Number Of Women Killed In Cameroon, Rose To 77. From January – August 31, 2026, The Total Number Of Women Killed Is Already Above 77.

Statistics from the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family shockingly show that from 2023, there has persistently been an annual increase in the number of women killed in Cameroon. Worthy of note, that the number of women includes girls from the age of 18 (maturity). In 2023, the total of cases of femicide, or the number of women killed in the country, which were officially registered, was 50. In 2024, the total number of woman that were killed in the country, rose to 67, and the figure further rose to a total of 77 in 2025.
It is not clear why the sudden upsurge in this devilish, pernicious, nauseating or nefarious act in the society. Why is an increasing number of women being killed in Cameroon! Why should women, human beings, the mother of humanity, be killed! Why should a man, that yesterday swore to the wife that he loved her, suddenly turn around to murder the woman, or hire assassins to eliminate her in cold blood!
Situation Is Only Worsening
Meanwhile, with eight months gone this year as today is Monday, August 31, 2026, the updated statistics of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family on the number of cases of femicides this year is not yet known. The last time this year that the statistics of the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family, on the number of famicides registered in Cameroon this year, were made public, was during the June session of Parliament. The shocking statistics showed that as by the time of preparing the report, a total of over 50 cases of femicide had already been recorded in Cameroon this year. That is, from January to end of May 202, more than 50 women were killed. According to the statistics, the number of women killed, was part of the total of 1589 cases of violence against women, which were registered during that period in the country.
But as the Minister of Women Empowerment and the Family, Prof Marie – Therese Abena Ondoa, stated in the report, it is definitely not all cases of violence against women, or even cases of femicide, that are registered or recorded by the ministry and its external services across the country. It is the same thing with reports on violence against women and femicide, by NGOs or civil society groups. The thing is that there are cases, especially in rural areas or villages, where families, including even0 women that are victim of domestic violence, cover up cases of cruelty or wrongdoings by men, saying that they will bring shame to the families. There are even cases where families cover up heinous crimes like ‘femicide”, lying that the women died of natural causes, in a bid to “protect” the names or the image of the families.

August 2026 Is The Worst Month
Meanwhile, statistics show that the month of August 2026 which ends today (Monday, August 31), has registered the highest number of reported cases of femicide this year in Cameroon. It is also seemingly the worst month in the case of femicide committed in Cameroon, for decades. Cameroon made negative – headline news on a number of foreign media organs like Radio France International (FRI), when a total of eight women were reportedly killed in the country from August 17 – 23, 2026. That is, 8 women killed in 7 days in Cameroon. And these are cases that were registered, or reported. As the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family said last June in the report presented to Parliament, there are cases of violence, including cases of extreme violence, against women, that are not known by the public, or that are covered up by families.
Meanwhile, statistics on the total number of women killed in Cameroon in this fateful month of August 2026 ending today is not yet known, but it is very likely to reach 20. It should be noted that after the period of August 17 – 23, when eight women were killed in seven days in the country, more killings were reported before the end of the month.
More cases Of Femicide In August 2026
The case which received much media attention was definitely the assassination of 42 year old Crescence Merine Beguel, at Salvador Hotal at Quartier Fouda in Yaounde on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The lady was assassinated by a young man of 22 years, who was reportedly hired and sent to Yaounde on mission to eliminate her. The young man reportedly called the woman that fateful Tuesday morning, to come to the hotel. It is not clear as what he told her. But according to the Proprietor of the hotel, just about 10 minutes after the woman arrived the hotel that morning, personnel of the hotel heard the cry of the lady, and rushed to the room. It was difficult to break into the room that was locked inside. The police were called in. They finally succeeded to breakdown the door into the room, only to see the lady lying in the pool of her own blood. It was realized that the woman was killed with a knife. The 22 year old young man reportedly tried to escape, but was caught by the population after a man chase. He was then whisked off by the police to their station.
There was also the case of a man in Douala in Douala, who “butchered” the wife to dead. The man was what is commonly known in the country as a “butcher”. That is, somebody who sell s uncooked meat. Unfortunately, last week at their matrimonial home, the “butcher” viciously turned a knife, apparently the one he was using to cut meat to sell, on the wife, and took away her life.

Man Uses Poison To Kill His Wife
In Mbalmayo, Centre Region, a man known as Julius Kpwe, who was working as security guard, took away the life of his wife with the use of poison, in a case of premeditated murder. The man reportedly called the wife, Delphine, to come to his job side. When Delphine got there, the husband gave her a piece of roasted pork meat. As is typical of good mothers who never eat without thinking about their kids, the woman wanted to take part of the meat home to give to their children, who are still young. But the husband insisted that she should eat all the meat, there. The unsuspecting woman respected her husband’s decision, and after eating returned to their matrimonial home. Then suddenly she started feeling a lot of pains in the stomach, and her health situation rapidly degenerated, as she started foaming. Suffice to say she died that same day while being taken to the hospital by her neighbours. The husband, Julius Kpwe, who was arrested, confessed to poisoning his wife. He attributed the horrible act he committed, to an allegation that he came to realize that the wife did not love him, and that the wife’s family (in –laws) also did not like him. He apparently thought that by using poison, the cause of his wife’s death would not be known. An Animal! Meanwhile in Bafoussam, a man also reportedly brutalized his wife to dead, following a dispute over a piece of bush meat.
Man On The Run After Killing Wife In Kaele, Far North Region.
On August 27, 2026, a deadly case of domestic violence was reported in Quartier Gouzougoui 2 in Kaele, Far North Region of Cameroon. A security guard, who was working for a Chinese company in the town, reportedly beat his young wife, to dead. The couple had a three month old baby. After committing the devilish act, the devil –incarnate of a husband vamoosed, while the corpse of his young wife was taken to the mortuary of the Kaele District Hospital. The husband – turn – murderer who is on the run, is being hunted by the Forces of Law and Order. Meanwhile the very next day after the Kaele Killing, that is, on August 28, a young lady was reportedly ‘butchered’ to dead by her husband at Olembe, in the outskirt of Yaounde, in the presence of their kids. Terrible! Looks like no day passed in Cameroon in this fateful month of August that ends today, without a woman being killed.
What is really happening to this country! The hope of all Cameroonians of goodwill, patriots, lovers of humanity, have always been that God is in control. Their prayer has always been that God should continue to be in control. But from the look of things, Satan appears to be in control, now. May God take control!
