Commonwealth University Confers Honorary Doctorate to CWCS Coordinator

  • Dr Gordon Ajonina is the first Cameroonian and conservation biologist in Congo Basin, to be given the distinction

The Coordinator of the Cameroon Wildlife Conservation Society, CWCS, Dr Gordon Ajonina, has been internationally recognized for the great work he has been doing over the years in the domain of nature conservation and protection, by the Academic Council of the Commonwealth University in Kigali, Rwanda.  He was on November 22, 2023 conferred the Honorary title of Doctor of Wildlife and Conservation Management (Honoris Causa), by   the international and reputed university,

 

The Common University explained that the Honoris Causa conferred to Dr Ajonina, was in recognition of his valuable contribution and achievements in nature conservation and mangrove ecosystems protection in particular.  Worthy of note, that Dr Ajonina has over the years been working tirelessly to protect mangroves and wetlands in Cameroon. He has also carried out extensive field research in mangroves forests and wetlands management across Africa.  The erudite Dr Ajonina is as well the author and peer review of several scientific articles, and has contributed and co – authored several books on the subject matter.

 

It should also be noted that Dr Gordon Adjonina who is a renowned and vibrant advocate for protection, also heads the Mangroves Network. The Mangroves Network is a consortium of over 40 CBOs that campaign and advocates for the protection of mangroves and wetlands ecosystems in Cameroon.  Worth adding that Dr Ajonina is a brilliant and reputed university lecturer and trainer that has groomed more than 1000 students,

A Historic Award

It is interesting to note that in receiving the award (Honorary Causa) from the Commonwealth University on November 22, 2023.  Dr Gordon Ajonina goes down in record as the first Cameroonian and Conservation biologist from the Congo Basin, to earn such a prestigious distinction from the  reputed British University.

 

Reacting to the recognition by the distinguished British Institution, Dr Ajonina humbly said: “I was pleasantly surprised by this very exceptional distinction. This is testimony of the handwork we have accomplished for almost three decades. Cameroon Wildlife Conservation Society is more than committed to conserve nature, especially mangroves and wetlands in Cameroon for the wellbeing of the people”.   As can be seen, Dr Ajonina in his humble attitude as usual, gave credit for the prestigious award to the Cameroon Wildlife Conservation Society which he heads, than to himself alone.
