The Cameroon Bar Council currently headed by Batomnier MBAH Eric MBAH, has triumphed in the matter dubbed, Affaire Barreau du Cameroun/ WACHOU Simeon, that is, the Cameroon Bar Council / WACHOU Simeon Affair. Wachou Simeon who was accused of being a fake lawyer, has since the evening the October 21, 2024 being yawning behind bars, precisely at the Yaounde Central Prison commonly known as Kondengui Prison.

This information is contained in a communiqué of the Cameroon Bar Council, signed by Barrister Pierre Robert FOJOU, a member of the Cameroon Bar Council and Assistant Representative of the President of the Cameroon Bar Council (Batonnier) in the Centre, South and East Regions.  Barrister Fojou was the representative of the President of the Cameroon Bar Council in the, Cameroon Bar Council /Wachou Simeon Affair. Worthy of note, that Barrister Fojou indicated in the communiqué that the Cameroon Bar Council was given authorization to publish the information.

Three Count Charge

Meanwhile, according to the communiqué, the fake lawyer, Wachou Simeon, was unmasked a few years back, during the period when Charles TCHAKOUNTE PATIE, was President of the Cameroon Bar Council.. Following the unfortunate passing away of Batonnier Tchakounte Patie, the Interim President of the Cameroon Bar Council, Barrister Claire ATANGANA BIKOUNA, continued with the judicial process against Wachou Simeon. The three count charges leveled against Wachou Simeon included: 1) Illegal exercise of the profession of a lawyer. 2) Usurpation of a title. 3) Usurpation of a uniform. In a nutshell, Wachou Simeon was accused of exercising the functions of a lawyer when he was not one, that he was passing around for lawyer or calling himself a  lawyer when he was not one, and that he was putting on the  uninform or robes of a lawyer when he was not one.

Judgment Passed Since 2022

According to Barrister Fojou in the communiqué he signed, the Yaounde Court of First Instance  at the Administrative Center, on October 12, 2022  passed judgment No. 6624, in which Wachou was slammed a six months imprisonment term and a fine of 500,000 FCFA , as well as  court charges of 307,107 FCFA. But it is not clear why the judgment was not executed.

Wachou probably had a big ‘god father’ that protected him.  That also probably got into his head, as he instead continued to launch attacks against the Bar, especially the leadership. As Barrister Fojou mentioned in the communiqué, Wachou’s last attacks against the Bar were launched against the President of the Cameroon Bar Council, Mbah Eric Mbah, concerning the examination that was organised for student lawyers, and also about CAPA 2024.

Meanwhile, the Cameroon Bar Council stepped up efforts to ensure the execution of a warrant of arrest that was issued against Wachou Simeon, following the court ruling, Judgment No. 6624 passed on October 12, 2022. According to the Cameroon Bar Council’s communiqué signed by Barrister Pierre Robert Fojou, the fake lawyer, Wachou Simeon, was finally arrested on Thursday, October 17, 2024, and taken to the Yaounde Court of First Instance, Administrative Center, and the court in the evening of Monday, October 21, 2024  ordered that he be taken to the Kondengui Prison.

“The End Of The Imposture Of Wachou”

Meanwhile, Barrister Pierre Robert Fojou, who represented the Batonnier in the Cameroon Bar Council / Wachou Simeon Affair, in the communiqué, has thanked all colleagues that assisted in one way or the order, for the Cameroon Bar Council to put an end to the imposture of Wachou Simeon. He said what has finally happened to Wachou Simeon, should serve as warning to all impostors to know the fate that awaits them, when they attack the noble profession.
