A new generation is completely in charge in Senegal

The new ruling movement in Senegal, PASTEF, which has as Founding President, Ousmane Sonko (Prime Minister), with Bassirou Diomaye Faye (President of the Republic) as Vice President, won the much needed majority seats at the  hotly contested legislative elections, which held in the country  on November 17, 2024. It should be noted that the new team of  Diomaye Faye and Sonko that swept to power in Senegal  at the last presidential elections which held in March 2024, had problems at the level of the National Assembly, because the majority in the House was  still that of  the party of outgone President, Macky Sall.

It should as well  be noted that after coming to power, the Diomaye Faye – Sonko team uplifted the ban that was slammed  on their movement, PASTEF, by the then President of the Republic, Macky Sall.  So it was on the banner of the new ruling movement, PASTEF, that the Diomaye Faye –Sonko team faced the November 17 legislative elections, with campaigns led by Ousmane Sonko. They called on Senegalese to give them the much needed majority seats in parliament, so as to enable them to carry through the programme thy have for the Senegalese people and country. The Senegalese people reacted positively as a majority voted for PASTEF candidates in most parts of the country, despite the fact that the parties of two former Heads of State, Macky Sall and Abdoulaye Wade, surprisingly formed an opposition coalition against PASTEF, and with campaigns led by Macky Sall in person.

So PASTEF emerged from the November 17 legislative elections in Senegal, with a majority of MPs or a majority of seats in the country’s National Assembly. It should be noted that Senegal today has no Senate. Macky Sall who served his maximum two term mandate as President of the Republic of Senegal from 2014 to 2024, while in office scrapped the Senate. He explained that the Senate was a waste of the country’s scarce resources. It was a very popular decision in Senegal then, and remains a very popular decision till date.

New President Of National Assembly

Meanwhile having won the majority of seats in Parliament, it was just but normal that the new President of the National Assembly should come from PASTEF. The choice of the Diomaye Faye – Sonko team  turned out to  Malick Ndiaye, and PASTEF MPs respected the decision during the vote for the new President of the National Assembly, and  Ndiaye won. And so the youthful MALICK NDIAYE, who is 41 years old, is the new President of Senegal’s National Assembly. He is the 14th President of Senegal’s National Assembly since the country won its independence in 1960.

It should be noted that  the new President of the National Assembly of Senegal, Malick Ndiaye, studied Management, International Trade, Transport and Logistics.  Ndaiye was appointed Minister of Infrastructures, Land and Air Transport by Prime Minister and Head of Government, Ousmane Sonko, when the Diomaye Faye and Sonko team took over power in April 2024 in Senegal, after democratic election. He was encouraged by the team to run in the November 17 legislative elections, as the team had a plan for him, also meant to ensure a balance of power in the country.

A New Generation In Charge In Senegal

A new generation is completely in charge now in Senegal, which has established itself as one of the very few democratic countries in Africa. The President of Senegal is 44 year old Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The Prime Minister and Head of Government, is 50 year old Ousmane Sonko, while the President of the National Assembly is 41 year old Malick Ndiaye. Great Minds, Great Achievements. It should be noted that the Cameroonian colleague of the 41 year old Malick Ndiaye, the new President of Senegal’s National Assembly, is Cavaye Yeguie Djibril. No Comment.

“The Youths Of Today, Are The Leaders Of Tomorrow”

Meanwhile from all indications, the saying that the youths of today are the leaders of tomorrow holds true in Senegal. But in Cameroon, hummmmm! Most of the youths of the 80s in Cameroon that were being told by the  country’s leaders of how they were the leaders of tomorrow, have gone on retirement, while those leaders are still in office up till today. Worse still, they are even talking of seven more years.
