KAMTO Hastened His Resignation From MANIDEM, Because EKANE ANICET Was Trying To Exploit His Name As ‘Militant’ Of His YANGO Party, To Give Weight To His  ‘Union For Change’

MAURICE KAMTO Is Very Unlikely To Support A Presidential Candidate In The Southern Part Of The Country Like JOSHUA OSIH, CABRAL LIBII Or PIERRE KWEMO, Because Their Parties Will Be  MRC’S Rivals At The 2026 Legislative And Municipal Elections

From all indications, Ekane Anicet’s plan was to exploit the name of the frontline opposition leader, Maurice Kamto, to give weight to his new ‘enterprise’, Union For Change.  It would be recalled that the MRC leader and the party’s presidential candidate, Maurice Kamto, temporally resigned from MRC and became a ‘militant’ of MANIDEM, in order to get the party’s investiture to be a candidate at the October 12, 2025 presidential election. Unfortunately the Constitutional Council in a ruling on August 5, 2025, rejected the candidacy of Maurice Kamto for the October 12 presidential election, on the claim that there was a multiplicity of investiture by MANIDEM. What that also meant in practically terms, was that the short period during which Kamto was to be militant of the YANGO Party (MANIDEM), was at its end, and that he had to return to his real party, MRC.

But Maurice Kamto, apparently to avoid being considered by some people as being ungrateful to Ekane’s YANGO Party, if he immediately announced his formal return to his party, MRC, did not thus immediately announce his return to MRC.  An enlarged meeting of the MRC National Council, which held in Yaounde on September 6, 2025, in a resolution called on Maurice Kamto to return home (MRC).  He did not immediately still do so.

Big Embarrassment For Kamto, MRC And APC

Ekane Anicet

But then to the big embarrassment of Maurice Kamto, as well as MRC and the Nintcheu – led Political Alliance for Change, when the Ekane – Djeukam Union for Change’s communiqué, came out with the controversial announcement that the consensual candidate of the opposition would be made known on Saturday, September 13, 2025 in Yaounde, Ekane gave the false impression that Maurice Kamto and his supporters were part of the group.

MRC came out and declared that the party was never consulted or even contacted by Union For Change, and so distanced the party from the declaration of Union For Change, that a consensus candidate of the opposition was to be designated or made public on September 13. It should be noted that MRC could not directly dissociate Maurice Kamto from Union For Change, because he had then not yet formally resigned from MANIDEM and return to the party (MRC).

Coordinator Of APC, Jean Michel Nintcheu, Tries To Clear The Air

Hon Jean Michel Nintcheu

Meanwhile, when Ekane Anicet ignored the concern of MRC, and the false information associating Maurice Kamto and his supporters to Union for Change continued to circulate, the National Coordinator of the Political Alliance for Change, Hon Jean Michel Nintcheu, definitely in an attempt to save Kamto’s image, came out with a communiqué on Tuesday, September 10, 2025.  Our proximate translation of the essential part of that communiqué, read: “The Political Alliance for Change and its candidate, Professor Maurice Kamto, hereby informs the national and international public opinion, that nobody, structure or group has been mandated by APC or its candidate to engage in any discussion or negotiation in their names, within the framework of an eventual designation of a consensual candidate of the opposition”.

It should be noted that the Political Alliance for Change, commonly known by the French abbreviation, APC, is supposedly a coalition of opposition parties and civil society organizations that was created to rally support for the candidacy of Maurice Kamto, at the 2025 presidential election.

Ekane Hits Back At Nintcheu

Contacted by Balafon Tv / Radio in Douala on Thursday, September 11, 2025 for his reaction to the APC’s communiqué that was issued by Jean Michel Nintcheu, one of the two founders of Union For Change, Ekane Anicet, leader of the YANGO Party (MANIDEM), told off Nintcheu. He pointed out that Nintcheu’s Coalition, Political Alliance for Change, was unable to give investiture to Maurice Kamto to be a candidate for the October 12, 2025 presidential election, and even questioned the raison d’etre for the continuous existence of so called alliance.  Ekane insisted that it was MANIDEM that gave investiture to Maurice Kamto to be the party’s candidate for the October 12 presidential election, though the candidacy was unjustly rejected, and that Kamto was a militant of MANIDEM.

It should be noted that it was a secret discussion, or better still, a secret negotiation between the two friends based in Douala, Jean Michel Nintcheu and Ekane Anicet, which held at a restaurant /smack bar at Bonapriso – Douala, owned by Cyrille George Sam Mbaka, leader of AFP Party, that led or that enabled Maurice Kamto, to move from MRC to MANIDEM (YANGO Party), and be given the party’s investiture for the October 12 presidential election by Ekane Anicet.  The war of words that sparked off between Nintcheu and Ekane, over the then planned designation of purported consensus candidate by Union For Change, sparked fear in the camp of Maurice Kamto, that the situation might degenerate to a point where Ekane might dammed the consequences, and run his mouth about the terms of the secret negotiation that took place between Nintcheu and himself.

EKane Arrogantly Considered Kamto  As An Ordinary Militant Of MANIDEM

Prof Maurice Kamto

It should also be noted that Ekane Anicet did not even have the courtesy to discuss with Kamto, or even just to inform him, about the controversial plan by his new group, Union For Change, to designate a purported consensual candidate of the opposition. Yet, Kamto’s name was being used in the mafia.

And this clearly showed in the the aforementioned interview that Balafon Tv /Radio, had with Ekane Anicet on September 11.  The interview as also aforementioned was to get Ekane’s reaction to the communiqué that Jean Michel Nintcheu issued on September 10, disassociating Kamto from the controversial plan by Union for Change, to designate any so called consensus candidate of the opposition for the October 12, 2025 presidential election.

Ekane repeatedly evaded a key question, which was whether he contacted Kamto on the issue.  When the two journalists of Balafon, as good professionals, insisted on getting a response to the key question, Ekane Anicet in his response said Maurice Kamto was a militant of the MANIDEM, while he was President of the party. Though that was not a direct response to the question, it was however understood that the rather arrogant response of Ekane, was that there was no reason for him to have contacted Kamto, or better still, that the President of MANIDEM did not need to contact a ‘militant’ of the party, to take such a decision. This also meant that Ekane dishonestly considered Maurice Kamto, as an ordinary militant of MANIDEM.

Kamto Was Forced To Hasten His Resignation

In the face of the above reaction by Ekane Anicet on September 11, the ‘ordinary militant’ of MANIDEM, Maurice Kamto, was forced to hasten his formal resignation from MANIDEM, the very next day (Friday, September 12, 2025), to return to his party, MRC. It was certain that Kamto was trying to avoid more possible embarrassments, by hastily leaving MANIDEM a day before the controversial Union For Change of Ekane and Djeukam, was due to designate, or to announce, the purported consensus candidate of the opposition for the October 12 president election, in Yaounde on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Kamto addressed his short resignation letter to the President of MANIDEM, Ekane Anicet. In a release which Kamto issued on that same September 12, to inform his supporters in particular and the population in general about his resignation from MANIDEM to return to MRC,  he was diplomatically or wise enough to avoid saying any about Union For Change.  Rather he heaped praises on Ekane Anicet and members of MANIDEM who warmly received him, and expressed his profound gratitude to them.

Kamto’s Supporters, Who Painted Ekane In Very Positive Light, Are Now Embarrassed

Ekane Anicet is known by political observers and analysts to have since become a controversial politician. The MRC that used to attack Ekane, knows that well.

But during the bitter conflict between Ekane Anicet and Dieudonne Yebga over the issue of MANIDEM’s investiture for the October 12, 2025 presidential election, Maurice Kamto’s MRC,  and  Jean Michel Nintcheu’s APC, used their supporters to paint Yebga in the social and mainstream media as a devil incarnate,  and painted Ekane as one of  the best politicians the world has ever known, a great Cameroonian  patriot,  a highly committed fighter for genuine change in Cameroon, and so on. But when it became clear that Maurice Kamto would unfortunately not be candidate at the October 12 presidential election, Ekane Anicet had to move on fast to look another deal in the October presidential election. As a result, Ekane so rapidly became an embarrassment to Kamto’s MRC and Nintcheu’s APC, by once more showing his true colours to the public, with the creation of the controversial Union For Change mafia, to designate a purported opposition candidate for the October 12 presidential election.

And now the same people, or better still, Kamto’s supporters and sympathizers, who just in the months of July and August 2025 hailed Ekane Anicet on the socia media and mainstream media as their hero, are now embarrassed, and their language has started changing. Politics!!!

Kamto To Likely Declare Support For A Northern Candidate

Issa Tchiroma Bakary

Meanwhile there are indications that the National President of MRC, Maurice Kamto, will in the coming days likely declare his support to one of the two northern candidates, UNDP’s Bello Bouba Maigari or FSNC’s Issa Tchiroma Bakary, for the October 12 presidential election. If he does, he will then call on his supporters, or better still, MRC militants, and sympathizers, to vote for that candidate at the October 12 presidential election.

There are indications that the MRC leader is very unlikely to declare  his support to any presidential candidate in the Southern part of the country like Hon Joshua Osih of SDF,  Hon Cabral Libii Ngue of PCRN , Hon Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya of CDU, or Hon Pierre Kwemo of UMS. This is because Kamto and his close collaborators in the MRC are, already looking ahead, to the legislative and municipal elections to hold in 2026, that is next year. And they do consider other Southern parties like the SDF, PCRN, CDU and UMS, as MRC’s major rivals in the two local elections, in the Southern part of the country, where MRC counts on grabbing parliamentary seats and municipal councils. MRC officials thus consider that it would not be a good political strategy, for the party to either support the SDF, PCRN, CDU or UMS, at the October 12 presidential election.
