Bedzigui bashes those he says jump into politics today, and the first thing they want to do is be a candidate in the presidential election.

The National President of PAL, Celestin Bedzigui, who is also the Deputy Mayor of the CPDM dominated Monatele Municipal Council in Lekie Division of the Centre Region, has declared his candidature for the 2025 presidential election. This is the first time that Bedzigui who has been active at the Cameroon political scene since the early 90s, has declared his candidature for the presidential election.

While trying to Justify his reason for declaring his candidature now, Bedzigui instead bashed some politically – immature persons, whom he says jump into politics today and the next thing they want to do, is to declare their candidatures for the presidential election. He argued that one cannot get into politics today and immediately wants to become the President of the Republic, or in other words, immediately declare his candidature for the presidential election. To Bedzigui, those persons certainly don’t understand what the very important institution, Presidency of the Republic, means.

Experience In Politics

To Bedzigui, those persons who want to run for office of President of the Republic with no political experience are adventurers in politics. He stated that the office of President of the Republic in a democracy is a political post, and that is why one has to get to that post through election, and as the candidate of a political party.  Thus one needs to have much political experience before eying that post, which is the highest position in the country.

Bedzigui said after getting into politics, and creating a political party, he had to patiently wait for many years to grow and mature in politics, before thinking of running for the office of President of the Republic. He pointed out that he started participating in elections by running in municipal elections, and today he is Deputy Mayor. He claims that his party actually beat the ruling CPDM at the last municipal elections in Monatele, though the official result instead put his party in the second position.

Bedzigui argued that after being in politics for many years during which he has participated in lower elections as well as gained much experience in politics, he thinks it is thus time for him to run for the office of President of the Republic.

 Being Unfair To Akere Muna

Meanwhile before declaring his candidature for the 2025 presidential election, Celestin Bedzigui sparked a controversy, when he declared that his party, PAL, has decided to reject the request of Barrister Akere Tabeng  Muna, whom he said wanted to run for  the 2025 presidential election on the ticket of the party. Worthy of note, that Akere Muna does not have a political party and is not known to be a militant of any political party.

According to the President of PAL, Akere Muna approached him with the request that the party should give him the opportunity to run for the 2025 presidential election as its candidate.  But Bedzigui said after reflecting on the request, the leadership of PAL rejected it on the ground that the party does not share some of  Muna’s ideas in politics, and so could not accept that he should be the party’s candidate at the  2025 presidential election.

It should be noted that Bedzigui’s declaration was published by some online publications, which announced that Bedzigui’s party had rejected Muna’s lobby to be the party’s candidate at the 2025 presidential election. There is no doubt that taking the issue public, was both an embarrassment and a public humiliation to a top personality like Akere Muna, There is also no doubt that Bedzigui’s action was quite controversial.  Some political observers questioned Bedzigui’s reason or intention, of taking the affair with Muna, public. Akere Muna certainly met Bedzigui in private with his request. Why did Bedzigui have to take the response public? That is the question.

Bedzigui’s Declaration Of His Candidature

Also, not long after Bedzigui went public with the statement that his party had rejected Akere Muna’s request to run for the 2025 presidential election, on PAL’s ticket, because of political differences between Muna and the party, Bedzigui declared his candidature for the presidential election. Why was he not honest enough to instead say that the PAL’s leadership rejected Muna’s request, because he intended to run for the election on the party’s ticket. Except Bedzigui wants people to believe that by the time he reacted to Muna’s request publicly, he did not yet know that he would declare his own candidature for the 2025 presidential election.    That is, if it is true that Akere Muna contacted Bedzigui with the request to run for the 2025 presidential election.

Akere Muna’s Supporters’ Contradict Bedzigui, But – – –

Meanwhile some of Akere Muna’s supporters have tried to debunk Celestin Bedzigui’s declaration, claiming that it was Bedzigui who on the contrary met Muna with a proposal that he should run for the 2025 presidential election on the ticket of PAL. The Muna supporters allege that Muna at one point turned down the proposal because of Bedzigui’s numerous financial demands. However, Akere Muna himself or his press officer, has so far not made any public statement on Bedzigui’s declaration.

Some political observers  even think that Akere Muna was one of those that Celestin Bedzigui attacked, when he blasted people whom he said get into politics today, and the first thing they want to do is to run for the post of President of the Republic. It looks like there is actually a problem between Akere Muna and Bedzigui.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that the former President of the Cameroon Bar Council, Barrister Akere Muna, who is the Founder of  the NOW Movement, went in as a candidate for the 2018 presidential election, on the ticket of a political party, FPD, in the northern part of the country. But Muna withdrew from the race two days to the election, to support the candidature of Prof Maurice Kamto of MRC.
