HALLE Thinks That Where YONDO BLACK “Is Now, Is Better Than Where We Are, Engulfed In Moral Decadence In All Its Forms”. HALLE Concludes: “ADIEU, MON BATONNIER”.

Late Batonnier Yondo Black

The international legal luminary, Sir Dr Barrister Nico Halle, has written a tribute for the international legal colossus, Batonnier Yondo Black, former President of the Cameroon Bar Council, who passed away in Douala in the morning of Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the age of 87.   Worthy of note, that a President of the Cameroon Bar Council is commonly known in Cameroon by the French appellation, Batonnier.

Meanwhile, Sir Dr Barrister Nico Halle paid tribute to Botonnier Yondo Black, a big brother, whom he humbly or respectfully points out, was the Batonnier at the time he (Halle) entered the profession as a young lawyer. “To the extent that I knew him, he was outspoken and shunned hypocrisy and falsehood. He stood for the respect of the Rule of Law, each time he identified any violation”, Halle has stated.  Halle asserts that the Cameroon Bar Association has with the passing away of Batonnier Yondo Black, lost a model in the profession, and remarks that the void created in the Cameroon Bar Association by his demise, will be very difficult to fill.

BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY, IS THE TRIBUTE FOR YONDO BLACK, WRITTEN BY SIR DR BARRISTER NICO HALLE:

SHORT TRIBUTE FOR BATONNIER YONDO BLACK BY SIR DR BARRISTER NICO HALLE

The very learned Batonnier Yiondo Black is announced to have passed away. The sad news got to me like a thunderbolt, as it is not long since I last saw him. Though devastated and numbly, I felt a little relief after remembering his fulfilled and accomplished life as a high profile international legal colossus.

I became a Barrister when he was a Batonnier, and since then, we had a very cordial relationship each time we met. To the extent that I knew him, he was outspoken and shunned hypocrisy and falsehood. He stood for the respect for the Rule of Law each time he identified any violation. His professional aura and wherewithal were ubiquitous. The Bar Association has lost a model to be emulated by all and sundry. The void created by his demise will be very difficult to fill. All I can say here, is that where he is now, is better than where we are, engulfed in moral decadence in all its forms. May he find respite in the bosom of our awesome God.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences, to the entire family, the Bar Association, and friends alike.

ADIEU MON BATONNIER.

Sir Dr Barrister Nico Halle
