SDF Chairman, Hon Joshua NAMBANGI OSIH, was recently in the border town, CAMPO, in the South Region, where there was an impressive turnout of SDF militants

SDF 35th anniversary rallies to hold in OBALA, MBOUDA, BANKIM, MAGBA, LOUM and MORA, while next NEC meeting will hold in BAFOUSSAM on May 24, and the Party BBQ in BABA II on May 26.

An SDF delegation led by the National Chairman will be in the Far North Region from June 1 – 7, 2025, to engage with communities and celebrate the Feast of the Ram

The leadership of Cameroon’s frontline opposition party, the Social Democratic Front (SDF), is intensifying efforts to get the party to  effectively evolve from what for many years was known as an Anglo – Bami Party, to a veritable national party.  This can be seen for example in the way the party leadership has planned rallies to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the party, which this time around will span over a period of one week across the country.

It should be recalled that the SDF was launched in Bamenda on May 26, 1990, and so will be 35 on May 26, 2025. It should as well be noted that this year’s anniversary celebration will be coming a few months ahead of a crucial election in the country, that is, the presidential election expected to hold in October 2025.  There is no doubt that the SDF hierarchy also had the presidential election in mind, in planning the anniversary rallies.

National Day Celebration In Cameroon And Abroad

Meanwhile talking about the anniversary rallies of the SDF, the Secretary General of the party, NJONG FONYUY Donatus, issued a communiqué on May 5, 2025, addressed to all party members, on the upcoming National Day celebration on May 20, as well as on SDF’s 35th anniversary celebration. “As we approach two significant dates in our national  and party history, this note serves as a directive  and a call to mobilize for the National Day  celebrations on 20th May, and the 35th Anniversary of the Party which will hold from the 23rd May to 1st June 2025”, the  Secretary General  explains to party members in his communiqué.

As for the 20th May celebration, the Secretary General calls on all Electoral and District Chairpersons “to ensure massive, disciplined, and orderly participation in the National Day March Past across the national territory and in the diaspora, under the supervision of the Regional Chairpersons and the Coordination of Divisional Coordinators”.  However, the SDF hierarchy, while encouraging participation at the May 20th celebration, has not made participation compulsory for all Electoral Districts of the party. This is certainly considering the challenges on the ground in some parts of the country. Rather, the SDF Scribe in his communiqué says: “Participation is encouraged wherever logistically possible”.

SDF Anniversary Rallies / Engaging With Communities In Far North Region

As for the 35th anniversary celebration of the SDF, the party’s Secretary General, Njong Fonyuy Donatus, in his May 5th communiqué, state the dates and venues of the anniversary rallies. According to the programme, the first rally of the 35th anniversary celebration of the SDF will hold in OBALA, Centre Region on May 23rd, 2025, while the second anniversary rally will hold in MBOUDA, West Region on May 25th, 2025.  The Party BBQ will hold in BABA II on May 26, 2025. Worthy of note that BABA II is  the village of  the Pioneer National Chairman of  the SDF, Ni John FRU NDI, who was also one of the Founding Fathers of  the party. Though not mentioned in the communiqué of the Secretary General, the event in Baba II will certainly hold in Fru Ndi’s compound, where he was buried when he passed away in June 2023.

Meanwhile two SDF anniversary rallies are scheduled on May 27th, with one holding in BANKIM, Adamawa Region, and the other in MAGBA, Noun Division. There will be another anniversary rally in LOUM, Littoral Region on May 29, 2025, and the last anniversary rally will hold in MORA, Far North Region on June 1st, 2025. The S DF Secretary General in his communiqué has told all Regional and District Chairpersons concerned, that they are expected to ensure the mobilization of local structures, and ensure the success of all activities in their respective areas.

NEC Meeting To Hold In Bafoussam On May 24

Meanwhile in a separate communiqué that was issued on that same May 5, 2025, the Secretary General of the SDF, Njong Fonyuy Donatus, informs all members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party, that an ordinary meeting is convened on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in BAFOUSSAM, at the Regional Secretariat of the party. “The meeting that will start at 9am is enlarged to actual and former SDF Mayors and members of Parliament, and shall be chaired by the National Chairman, Hon Joshua Osih. Considering the importance of its agenda, the presence of all is highly mandatory. The punctuality of members to this meeting is highly solicited”, the Secretary General stressed.

SDF National Chairman In Campo

Meanwhile the National Chairman of the SDF, Chief Hon Joshua Osih, recently defied the bad state of the road and travelled to CAMPO in Ocean Division of the South Region. It should be noted that Campo Municipality is located at the Cameroon side of the border with Equatorial Guinea. In fact the border between the two countries is River Ntem.

An impressive number of SDF militants in the frontier town, Campo, turned out at the meeting with the National Chairman of the party.  Chairman Osih did not only address the SDF militants, but he also gave enough room for a question and answer session, during which he clarified the militants on quite a number of important issues, including for example Federalism for which SDF stands. Apparently the CPDM had been trying to scare SDF militants from the party by falsely claiming that Federalism is another form of secession, and that the SDF is thus for secession. A real campaign of disinformation against the SDF, by the CPDM!

Osih tore those fake claims about Federalism to bits and pieces, and took time to explain to the militants what Federalism is all about. He asserted that Federalism is in line with the SDF policy of, Power to the People. He pointed out that CPDM’s decentralization policy has failed woefully. The SDF leader talked about the importance of the presidential election expected to hold in October this year, stressing on the need for genuine change to come to Cameroon, for the interest of the country and its people. He urged SDF militants and sympathizers in Campo that have not yet registered on the Voters’ register,  to hurriedly do so before it is too late, saying that they all have an obligation to individually contribute to bring  the much needed change to Cameroon, with their votes.
