The National Council Of MRC Had  In a Meeting On September 6, 2025, Called On KAMTO To Return Home After The Constitutional Council Rejected His Candidacy For The  October 12, 2025 presidential election on the ticket of MANIDEM

But Kamto’s Resignation From MANIDEM Has Been Hastened, Following A Tense Situation That Sparked Off Between His Camp And The MANIDEM Leader, Ekane Anicet.

Prominent opposition leader, Prof Maurice Kamto, who in late June ‘resigned’’ from his party, MRC (CRM), and joined the MANIDEM Party, or better still the MANIDEM faction of Ekane Anicet, in bid to get an investiture to be a candidate at the 2025 presidential election scheduled to hold on October 12, has resigned from MANIDEM to return to his party, MRC. He is also expected to take back the post of National President of MAR.

The decision to resign from MANIDEM to return to the MRC, follows, the August 5, 2025 decision that was taken by the Constitutional Council, to reject the candidacy of Maurice Kamto for the October 12 presidential election. The Constitutional Council advanced as the reason for the rejection of Kamto’s candidacy, the multiplicity of candidacies by MANIDEM.

Resolution Of MRC National Council

Meanwhile, a resolution that was adopted by an enlarged meeting of the National Council of MRC that held in Yaounde on September 6, 2025, chaired by the Interim National President of the party, Mamadou Mota, called on Maurice Kamto to return as soon as possible to the leadership position in the party, that is, return to the post of National President of MRC, as soon as possible (“Le Conseil National lui demande de revenir dans les meilleurs delais a la tete au MRC”).

The National Council of the MRC which in one of the resolutions of  the September 6 meeting renewed its confidence in Prof Maurice Kamto, justified the call for his return home (MRC),  following the unfortunate rejection of his candidacy for the October 12, 2025 presidential election, by the Constitutional Council.

 Resignation Letter

Meanwhile, the resignation letter of Maurice Kamto from MANIDEM, which he addressed to the National President of the party, Ekane Anicet, was just a few lines. In the correspondence, he informed the MANIDEM leader of his resignation from the party, and expressed gratitude to the party and its leader for having accepted to present his candidacy for the October 12, 2025 presidential election. Kamto in the letter gave no reason for his resignation.

September 12 Statement

Prof Maurice Kamto

However in a statement issued on September 12, 2025, Maurice Kamto explained the reason for his resignation from MANIDEM, citing the resolution that was adopted by the National Council of MRC at the September 6 meeting, calling on him to return to the party, following the contested decision that was taken by the Constitutional Council on August 5, 2025, to reject his candidacy for the October 12 presidential election.

“The CRM National Council noted the end of my mission at its meeting of 6 September 2025, with the resolution calling for my return to the party, and the resumption of my mandate as National President of the CRM.  In order to comply with this request, I first had to resign from MANIDEM. I did so today, 12, September by sending a letter of resignation to MANIDEM”, Maurice Kamto explained in the statement he issued on Friday, September 12. He said the resignation took effect immediately.

What Kamto Did Not Say

Ekane Anicet

Meanwhile, what Maurice Kamto did not say in his September 12 statement, was that his resignation from MANIDEM, also came  within the backdrop  of an increasingly tense relation between his camp and the MANIDEM leader, Ekane Anicet, especially between  Ekane Anicet and his supposed friend, Hon Michel Nintcheu, the Interim National Coordinator of the Political Alliance for Change. It should be noted that it was Hon Nintcheu who struck the deal with Ekane Anicet, for the latter to issue MANIDEM’s letter of investiture to Kamto, to be the party’s candidate for the October 12, 2025 presidential election.

A war of words erupted mid this week between Nintcheu and Ekane over Kamto, and some of Kamto’s men were really afraid of a possible escalation of the situation and the effects it would have on Kamto’s political image, especially if the situation degenerated to a point where certain things that happened behind the scene or in secret, were to be dumped into the public square. Though it was certain that Kamto was going to formally return to MRC soon, the tension that sparked off between his camp and Ekane Anicet, certainly hasten his resignation from MANIDEM.

Resignation Letter Dated September 10, Handed September 12

It should be noted that Kamto’s resignation letter from MANIDEM which was handed to the party’s leader, Ekane Anicet, on Friday, September 12, 2025 as was even confirmed by the statement that Kamto issued on that September 12, was dated September 10.  It is not clear whether Kamto delayed to send the resignation letter to the leader of MANIDEM, and why the delay, or it is that the letter was backdated. What is however clear is that Kamto did not inform or hint Ekane Anicet in advance, that he was about to resign from MANIDEM to return to MRC, which is what would normally had been done.

Ekane in his standoff with Nintcheu, on Thursday, September 11 told off Nintheu in an interview over Balafon Tv / Radio, that Kamto was a militant of MANIDEM, and that he was the party’s President. He said that Nintcheu’s coalition, Political Alliance for Change, which could not give Kamto an investiture to be candidate for the 2025 presidential election, has ceased to be relevant. Then on September 12, Ekane received a resignation letter from Kamto dated September 10. Politics!
