Meanwhile, also talking to the media, the International Peace Crusader, Multiple Award Winner, and international Legal Consultant and legal luminary, Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor  Nico Halle, said he was humbled as well as blessed by  the visit of the City Mayor of Douala, Dr Roger Mbasa Ndine, who was accompanied by a powerful delegation, to visit the award gallery. “The visit touches my heart. I want to formally express thanks to the City Mayor for this gesture of love, recognition, consideration and encouragement”, he added.

Nico Halle explained that the crusade for peace and justice, and the fight against corruption, hate speech and xenophobia in which he has been engaged for some 35 years today, is for the good of humanity and the society. “When there is justice in the society, everybody is at ease. When there is peace in the society, everybody is at ease. When there is love in the society, everybody is at ease”, he pointed out.

The promoter of core moral values in the society, Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle, stated that the moral values which include Love. Peace, Justice, Accountability, Transparency,   Self- Respect, Honesty, Equity, and above all the fear of the Lord, which he has been humbly promoting for 35 years today, constitute the platform on which Cameroon and other African countries are supposed to be built. He pointed out that Cameroon, like most other African countries, is blessed with enormous natural and human resources.  “With all these resources, we cannot justify why the level of unemployment and poverty keep rising in these African countries blessed with enormous natural and human resources. All of us, including you the journalists, have to strive to promote moral values  which include love, peace, justice , accountability, equity, and transparency in the society  or country, for the good of all”, Nico Halle urged.

Corruption Destroys The Foundation Of A Country

The anti –graft crusader, Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor  Nico Halle, explained that corruption which includes embezzlement and looting , kills in different ways, and  that corruption for example  destroys the foundation of a country.  “Here for example is a continent, or here are African countries, blessed with lots of natural resources, but where a handful of people grab everything, while the others (large majority) are left to suffer. We cannot condone that. I have been saying this publicly for long. I have been engaged in this fight against corruption, embezzlement, looting, lack of accountability, lack of transparency, and so on, for many years.  Others are suffering. There is high unemployment and poverty. There is no development, good roads are not there,  hospitals are either not there, schools are not there, aircrafts are not there, trains are not there, electricity is not there, and, so on.  Yet, we are the richest continent in term s of natural resources”, Nico Halle blasted.

Nico Halle argued that Cameroon for example which is blessed with a lot of natural resources, is in reality not a poor country, but is rather a country that is morally very poor.  “If a people are not morally strong, they cannot construct a country”, he said.

The international Peace Crusader and Legal Luminary, Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle, who recalled that he has been in the crusade for peace and justice, as well in the fight against corruption, hate speech and xenophobia for more than 30 years, reassured that he will not give up the fight, which is for the interest of humanity and the society.  “I will only strop this fight, the day I will stop breathing, that is, the day I will die. All of us will one day die. My hope is that if I am not there, those of you, who have been accompanying me, will continue the fight. I once more thank God Almighty, that has been accompanying me each day, in the fight”, Nico Halle, prayed.

Working Session – Issue Of Roads And Garbage Collection

Working Session

Meanwhile, before Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle led the visiting Douala City Mayor , Dr Roger Mbassa Ndine , and his delegation to  the award gallery, both sides first of all had a working session at the conference room of  the Nico Halle & Co Law Firm, in the SHALOM Building.

During the working session, Nico Halle noted that he has been in Douala for more than30 years today, and has never had problems with anybody.  He said he has been living in peace and in the spirit of brotherliness with the indigenes.  Halle lauded the indigenous Douala or Sawa people for their hospitality, which falls in line with the spirit of national integration, or the spirit of the Cameroon Constitution, which states that, each Cameroonian has the right to live wherever he wants in the country.

Nico Halle also seized the opportunity to raise the issue of poor or bad roads in Douala IV Municipality (Bonaberi), especially in the quarters.  Halle who was strongly critical of the situation, said it was scandalous and sad to find roads in Bonaberi in such a deplorable state in 2026. He questioned the reason for what he considered as an abandonment or neglect of Bonaberi (Douala IV Municipality), by the authorities or the Douala City Council.

Bonaberi Has Scandalously Become Like A Sea Of Garbage

Nico Halle was also very hard on the issue very irregular or even the non – collection of garbage in Bonaberi by the hygiene and sanitation company, HYSACAM, for some time now.  A situation which has left the municipality flooded with large heaps of garbage all over the place, exposing the population to lots of inconveniences. To circulate in Banaberi for example has become more difficult, as large garbage heaps have pushed into the roads in many places, blocking parts of the already bad roads.  Worst of all, the uncollected heaps of garbage, expose the population of the municipality which stinks of filth or rotten garbage, to the high risk of contracting diseases.

The Douala City Mayor, who had seemingly not yet directly tasted  the hard criticisms of the  no-nonsense Nico Halle, when  things are not being done rightly ,  was visibly shaken when Halle looked  at him straight into the face, and  bluntly said  it loud and clear, that : “Monsieur le Maire de la Ville, Bonaberi ou Douala IV,  a devenir un poubelle.  Oui, je dis bien que Bonaberi est  aujoud’hui un poubelle”.  That is, Halle said the once beautiful Bonaberi , has  today become a garbage dump; a sea of garbage.

City Mayor Complain Of Financial Constraints

In reaction, the City Mayor of Douala, Dr Roger Mbassa Ndine, who could not help putting it in a lighter mood  in a whisper to Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle, that he was rather too hard in his criticisms, however admitted that it was true that the inhabitants of Douala IV Municipality commonly known as Bonaberi, feels that the sub –division  has been abandoned by the Douala City Council.  He disclosed that a few weeks earlier, he had a meeting with Chiefs of Bonaberi, and that the chiefs raised similar complaints.

The Douala City Mayor blamed the situation on the difficult financial situation that the City Council has been facing  in the last couple of years, as even State subventions is increasingly becoming difficult to have, while the population of Douala is steadily increasing each and every year. In fact the City Mayor disclosed that official statistics show that each year, an average of 100,000 people, come to settle in Douala. As a result, there are new quarters illegally created by the population, that spring up every year in Douala, and which Is linked to the annual big increase in population of the town. He noted that it means an increasing annual demand, for the provision of basic facilities by the Douala City Council to the population. The City Mayor said the situation creates more financial difficulties for the council, as the big increase in population of Douala annually, as well as the frequent illegal creation of new quarters, are not being marched up by an increase in council revenue.

Special Commission To Help In The Development Of Bonaberi

Nevertheless, the Douala City Mayor, Mbassa Ndine, disclosed that there is an ongoing reflection by the Douala City Council, to create a Special Commission  to help in the development of the Douala IV Municipality (Bonaberi), just as was done with Manoka Islands Sub-division , which when it comes to council issues,  is officially known as Douala VI Municipality.

The Douala City Mayor also took the opportunity to express the appreciation of the City Council, to the contributions of Sir Dr Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle, to the development of Douala. He cited for example the giant or imposing SHALOM Building at Bonaberi (Dojuala IV), part of which hosts the Nico Halle & Co Law Firm. The SHALOM Building is owned by Nico Halle and Wife, Justine. The Mayor pointed out that the structure has provided convenient and secured space for a number of enterprises, including the branch of a multinational commercial bank, to install in Bonaberi (Douala IV).  He prayed others to emulate the example of Nico Halle, by contributing to the development and beautification of Douala, where they live and work or do their businesses, in peace.
