President MACRON, Appoints SYLVAIN RIQUIER, As New French Ambassador To Cameroon

The new Ambassador will take service on September 1, 2025

French President, Emmanuel Macron, on the recommendation of the French Prime Minister, Francois Bayerou, and the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean – Noel Barrot, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, signed a decree appointing Sylvain Riquier, a second grade State administrator, as the new French Ambassador to Cameroon. The French President in the decree stated that the Prime Minister and Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs are responsible, each in his domain, for the application or implementation of the decree appointing the new Ambassador to Cameroon.
Meanwhile, Sylvain Requier, who since August 2021 has been the French Ambassador to the Comoros, will according, to the presidential decree, officially take service in Cameroon as French Ambassador, on September 1, 2025. He will replace Thierry Marchand (a military General), who was appointed French Ambassador to Cameroon on September 15, 2022, and officially took service on October 11, 2025.
It should be noted that Western counties in general have a policy of not keeping an Ambassador in a country for too long. For most Western countries, the period that an Ambassador stays in a country ranges from 3 – 4 years.
