Chad’s Ambassador To Return To Cameroon
Chad’s Ambassador to Cameroon, Gali Ngothe Gatta, who was recalled home by the Government for ‘consultation’ on April 20, 2023, is to return to Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, to resume work. The information is contained in a communiqué issued in the Chadian capital, Djamena, today (Wednesday, June 7, 2023) by the Spokesperson of Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and African Integration, Ibrahim Adam Mahamat.
The Spokesperson in the communiqué said the Ambassador was recalled by the Chadian Government for consultation due to what he described as “une brouille autour de la question de pétrole Tchadien transitant par le Cameroun”. That is, the problem was about Chadian petrol (crude oil) that transits through Cameroon for export.
However, the Spokesman noted that despite the diplomatic crisis that erupted between the two countries, the Governments maintained communication at a very high level, as was seen with the visit that the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, made to Chad as the special envoy of Cameroon’s leader. He further recalled that Ngoh Ngoh was received by the President of Chad, General Mahamat Idris Derby Itno.
The Spokesman of Chad’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said after the visit of President Biya’s special envoy to Chad, the Chadian leader also dispatched the Minister of State, Secretary General, Gali Ngothe Gatta, as a special envoy to Cameroon. He said during the visit, the misunderstanding between Chad and Cameroon was resolved, and the tension between the two countries was thus diffused. This reaffirmed the traditionally excellent cooperation and fraternity between Chad and Cameroon.
The Spokesman said that with the two sisterly countries having discussed and resolved the issue of their divergent views on certain serious issues that cropped up between them, the Chadian Government has thus decided that Ambassador Djidda Moussa Outhman should return to Yaounde and resume his diplomatic duty.
