
Over 10 other Cameroonian soldiers that sustained injuries are receiving treatment in a hospital in Djamena, Chad
US Embassy in Yaounde condemns “the heinous March 24 terrorist attack against Cameroonian soldiers serving in Nigeria in support of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin”
12 valiant and patriotic Cameroonian soldiers of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin are no more. These patriots unfortunately fell while on duty in the fateful night of Monday, March 24 breaking Tuesday, March 25, 2025, when a large gang of heavily armed terrorists (Islamic or Moslem fundamentalists) who breezed in, inside several vehicles, stormed a post of mixed forces of defence and security, at a locality known as Wulgo, in the neighboring Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The mixed forces were in fact elements of Section 111 (three) of the Multinational Joint Task Force serving in the Lake Chad Basin, with base in North Gambaru, Ngala Local Government. It is an area of Nigeria that shares boundary with Cameroon, precisely the frontier zone of Fotokol in the Logone and Chari Division, Far North Region.
12 Cameroonian Soldiers Killed, Over 10 Wounded
According to a two page press release of Cameroon’s Ministry of Defence issued by the Chief of Communication at the ministry, Navy Captain Atonfack Guemo Cyrille Serge, the provisional casualty figure of the deadly incident as concerns Cameroon, show that a total of 12 Cameroonian soldiers were killed in that terrorist attack on the mixed security post at Wulgo in Nigeria, in that fateful night of March 24 breaking March 25. Still according to the press release, the corpses of the 12 fallen patriots have been deposited at the mortuary of the Military Hospital in Maroua, the Far North Regional Headquarters.
The press release by the Cameroon Ministry of Defence, also disclosed that a total of over 10 Cameroonian soldiers sustained injuries in the terrorist attack. The wounded soldiers were all evacuated to neighboring Chad, precisely to a hospital in the capital, Djamena, known as “L’Hopital de la Renaissance”, where they are receiving appropriate medical attention.
Casualties Of Other Countries Not Known
It should be noted that the statistics given by Cameroon’s Ministry of Defence, as regard the soldiers that were killed as well as wounded in the terrorist attack in the fateful night of March 24 breaking March 25, 2025, concerns only Cameroonian soldiers. The casualties suffered by other countries of the Multinational Joint Task Force, that had soldiers in the group or in the zone that was attack by the terrorists, are not known. For one thing, it is not the place of the Cameroon Government to talk about what happened to the soldiers of other countries. According to international norm, in such a situation it is the place of the Government of each country to communicate on its casualties. A government can decide not to communicate.
Increasing Capacity Or Force Of Terrorist Groups In Lake Chad Basin
Meanwhile the press release of the Ministry of Defence issued by its Chief of Communication did not mention the name or identify the terrorist group that attacked the security post of Section 111 of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin, in the night of March 24 breaking March 25, 2025. But the press release stated that there are a number of terrorists groups operating in the Lake Chad Basin. The press release also disclosed that based on credible information from the field, the capacity or force of these terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Basin is growing, and that it is due to a large extent to the fact that these terrorist groups have entered into alliances with powerful transnational criminal groups.
Condolence Message From President Paul Biya
Still on the press release of the Ministry of Defence, the release as well stated that the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, had transmitted to the families of 12 fallen soldiers, that is the bereaved families, the condolence message of the President of the Republic, Commander of the Armed Forces, as well as his wishes of quick recovery to the wounded soldiers.
US Embassy Condemns The March 24 Terrorist Attack
Meanwhile the US Embassy in Yaounde, Cameroon, has in press statement issued in English and French, condemns the heinous terrorist attack of March 24 against Cameroonian soldiers of Section 111 (three) of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin., and has as well extended the deepest condolences of the American people for the tragic loss. The Us Embassy in the press release has assured that the American people are standing with the Cameroonian people as they mourn the loss of their fellow citizens.
It should be noted that the United States of American is a country reputed for its strong or unwavering commitment in the fight against terrorism in all parts of the world.

PRESS STATEMENT
The United States Embassy in Yaounde condemns the heinous March 24 terrorist attack against Cameroonian soldiers serving in Nigeria in support of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin.
On behalf of the American people, we extend our deepest condolences for the tragic loss of Cameroonian soldiers who gave their lives in defense of Cameroon and the region.
